Standard Chartered Bank Taps IDEAS Server CAR to Help Plot Future Road Map

September 30, 2009 – Sydney, Australia

In times of financial uncertainty, IT infrastructure decisions and expenditures must be very carefully considered and are under close scrutiny. In 2009, Standard Chartered Bank expanded its usage of the Server Consolidation Analysis Resource (Server CAR), Carbon Calculator and Competitive Profiles suite from Ideas International (ASX:IDE) to assist in making informed and well-planned IT investment decisions.

Standard Chartered Bank has upgraded to IDEAS’ new powerful online Server CAR and Carbon Calculator to assist with capacity planning of its UK, Asia, EMEA and Middle East data centres and in particular to assess its environmental footprint.

A winner of several 2008 Banker Corporate Responsibility Commendations, Standard Chartered Bank has been identified as an institution at the forefront of the trend for environmental, social and strategic governance.

Standard Chartered Bank’s Capacity Planning team within its Global Data Centre Services Group uses IDEAS tools to help manage its data centre efficiency. The Server CAR is instrumental in Standard Chartered Bank being able to model different server consolidation scenarios across different vendors or between different architectures (RISC or X86) before a hardware investment is approved. Server CAR’s performance data adds granularity to the capacity planning function and enables Standard Chartered Bank to make decisions based on an independent metric which covers legacy as well as new products.

“We use the Server CAR tool from Ideas International to evaluate servers in terms of capacity and performance, and this is an important input into our future technology road maps,” said Scott Wardley, Manager of Capacity Planning, Technology Operations - Global Data Centre Services at Standard Chartered Bank. “IDEAS tools also aid us in capacity management, which is how we ensure that IT capacity meets current and future business requirements in a cost-effective manner.”

As Standard Chartered provides personal and business banking services in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, UK, Europe and the Americas, it needs tools that are relevant to all its locations and markets. Results from the IDEAS’ resources are provided in localized currency and units of measurement and its benchmarks draw from a comprehensive IT industry database of current and historical server configurations sold by the leading server manufacturers, dating back to 1996.

Standard Chartered Bank has been a client of IDEAS for over 3 years and also uses the suite of Competitive Profiles services for cross-vendor comparisons of feature, function and price for enterprise systems, storage and warranty services.

“The Carbon Calculator, released at the end of 2008 is now part of that suite and enables Standard Chartered to calculate the carbon and electricity savings resulting from any transition from legacy servers to newer more power efficient servers,” said Ideas International CEO, Stephen Bowhill. “IDEAS will continue to provide tools to help organizations like Standard Chartered Bank ensure that their sourcing and capacity benchmarking processes are efficient and as transparent as possible whether a company is focused on reducing costs or becoming more energy efficient or, ideally, both.”
